DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
Harris-52907 and Harris-1910 appear to represent the same person because: Same names parents, spouses, birth year and death year. I don't think there is any source that provides a middle initial (whether C or J). Overton should be a son of William and Elizabeth.

Bob, I suspect the C is for Claiborne. Note that one of the sources is "Harris and Allied Families of Claiborne, Gillison, Thompson and Whitsett" by Maud Callaway Hays in 1953; land contract - purchase or sale in Louisa County, Virginia. My records say his nickname was Claiborne Ned, which might support that. (I'm not sure where that information came from, though. I started doing family genealogy in the 80's and I didn't understand the need for footnoting at that point. I do know that Claiborne is an old colonial name in NC and Virginia and that Claiborne Smith is a busy genealogist for the area and might be a source.)
I believe the father and the son have some mixed up info. For example Harris-1910 is the father and he and his son have the same birth year. Also The mother of Harris-1910 shows as his daughter and Harris-1910 is his own father in this record.
There are some duplications in the siblings of the father also. Possibly the sons children are listed in the father's children. It's common for names to repeat so it's easy to get it mixed up.
Harris-12356 and Harris-10883 appear to represent the same person because: they're both the father of Temperance (I just proposed a merge of her duplicate profiles). Thanks!
