Biography

Per his will, he was married to a woman named Mildred, to whom he left half his estate. This same will suggests he had a relationship with Sarah Tyner by whom he had several children. (See below.)

John harris received 182 acres in the Isle of Wight,Virginia , in 1685.[1]

Children

That John Harris, through his will, named no specific children of his own suggests he had no children by his wife Mildred. But that he made significant bequests to the children of Sarah Tyner suggests the following were his biological children by Sarah:[2],[3]

  1. Harris Tyner, under 18 in 1711
  2. William Tyner, under 18 in 1711
  3. Sarah Tyner

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Harris-47671 and Harris-3805 do not represent the same person because: John Harris Tyner was the son of John Harris and his mistress Sarah Tyner. They had 3 children together who took their mothers maiden name.Sarah Tyner was my 9 th great grandmother. This can be proved by the will of John Harris. Sarah’s father was Nicholas Tyner and you can tell that he was upset about Sarah’s affair by what he left her in his will. I made a mistake about John Harris Tyner’s birth date and place of death. My information obtained from FamilyTree.com. I apologize for any inconvenience or problems this may have caused. I am new to Wikitree and just learning the format of my tree, plus the fact that I am 67 years old and do not see well. JimmyLewis

Harris-3805 and Harris-16287 appear to represent the same person because: Same person. Same parents. I think the DOB should be 1665.

Harris-12532 and Harris-3805 appear to represent the same person because: these were set in a rejected merge, but they both are attached as father of John Harris Tyner, so they were probably intended to represent the same person. I've found many records from Ancestry that show just "Isle" for Isle of Wight County, Virginia. Go with the death location on Harris-3805 (Chowan Pct., Albemarle Co., North Carolina). Thanks!

see Lineage #11, Harris DNA: Group 4, there is no doubt that the ancestors of this line trace back to Sarah Tyner, daughter of Nicholas Tyner of Isle of Wight Co., Virginia. She had 3 children by John Harris (ca. 1665-ca. 1712), son of Thomas Harris (ca. 1636-ca. 1688) of Isle of Wight Co., Virginia.
