Anne Southwell born 1574, dau of Thomas and Elizabeth Harris of Cornworthy, Devon,[1]
On 24 June 1594, she married Thomas Southwell of Norfolk at St Clement Danes in London; they had two daughters.
Anne and her first husband moved to Ireland in the early seventeenth century, but little is known of their life there.
Some time after her first husband's death in 1626, she married Captain Henry Sibthorpe, who was an army officer then serving in Ireland.
Anne (Harris) Southwell was an accomplished poetess: An unusual document, the Folger manuscript is a collaborative effort between the feisty Lady Anne Southwell and her second husband, Captain Henry Sibthorpe. It includes many poems by Lady Anne and some of her letters. This diplomatic edition includes drafts, deleted lines, alternate readings, marginalia, and paleographical and textual notes. The commentary provides background on related literature, history, music, and art history.
