Biography

A Harris pedigree in the Visitation of Essex noted that John Harris was the eldest son of Sir Thomas Harris of Maldon, Essex, and his wife Cordelia Gille.[1]

However, John was not mentioned in the will of his father Sir Thomas Herris, the will made on 13 Jan 1621/1622 and proved on 06 Mar 1622.[2]. The Testator referred to his eldest son Thomas and his youngest son Vincent.

John Harris was also not mentioned in the family pedigree [Harris No. 3] recorded in the Visitation of Essex in 1634.[3].

Morant[4] stated in regard to the estate at Maldon that "Sir Thomas Herris; who by fine and recovery settled it on himself and Cordelia his wife for life, and after their deaths to the use of John his eldest son. He having no issue, his brother Thomas Herris Esq; inherited".

On the balance of evidence it is presumed that John Harris son of Sir Thomas Herris of Maldon, Essex, pre-deceased his father.
