Biography

Col Thomas Harrison IV, husband of Ann Grayson Quarles Harrison; son of Col Thomas Harrison III, grandson of Burr Harrison II, great-grandson of Cuthbert Harrison I of Westminster, London, England who immigrated to Virginia. Believed to be buried in the historic Harrison Family Cemetery that is contained within the grounds of the Quantico National Cemetery and Marine Base in Virginia. The government acquired 50,000 acres in 1942 to expand the Marine Base, and with it took over many old family cemeteries. Most of the original markers for the Harrison ancestors buried here no longer exit, however descendants placed a Memorial Marker recognizing a few of those believed to be buried on the grounds of the old Harrison family plantation that was then located in what was part of Stafford County. Leads

From Landmarks of Old Prince William, Volumes I & II, by Fairfax Harrison. Publication sponsored by the Prince William County Historical Commission. 1987 (Originally printed 1924, Richmond, Virginia.)

  • pp 345-346, footnote 99. Thomas Harrison, the younger, was a son of Thomas Harrison of Chipawansic (ante., p 338 [see his father's profile]) and a grandson of the ambassador to the Piscataways. He makes his appearance as 'Thomas Harrison, jr.' in 1733, when he served the office of Sheriff of Prince William, and thereafter is so designated with his father in several commissions for Prince William until, after his father's death in 1746, he succeeded him as 'first' in the County Court and probably also as County Lieutenant....
