Biography

---John was born in 1788 in Bertie County, NC. and moved to Bear Grass, Martin County in 1805 when his parents moved. John married Christian about 1811 (maiden is believed to be Cowand?). John Harrison bought 300 acres of land in 1811 from Thomas Bennett in the Bear Grass Township of Martin County. The deed was registered in the March 1811 Term Court and is registered in Martin County Deed book E page 216. King Harrison signed the deed as a witness. He lived and farmed in the area of Bear Grass NC. His Last Will and Testament is recorded in Martin County record of Will Book 2 page 104. John died between February/March of 1925. His Last Will and Testament was written 4 February 1925 and probated in the March court Term in 1825. It was witnessed by George Harrison and James Harrison. John gave his beloved wife Christian one bed and furniture, loom wheel and cards, and $15.00 per year for five years. He gave his four children Eliza, Redmond, William, and James Harrison one track of land of 300 acres. The residue of his property to be sold at public action. John appointed King Harrison (his father) executor. There is a headstone is a headstone for John Harrison in very poor condition, in the cemetery but there is none for his wife Christian. ---There is no other record in Martin County of John's wife Christian; however, it appears she remarried in Bertie County (see notes under Christian Harison). King Harrison was also appointed guardian of John Harrison's heirs (Children) in September 1827 by the court of Martin County. On 13 July 1832 King Harrison sold to Daniel Biggs 190 acres of land that was owned by John Harrison in Bear Grass, NC.
