Biography

Born 22 SEP 1849. Red River County, Texas, United States. [1][2][3][4][5][6]

Died 22 FEB 1921. Graham, Young County, Texas, United States. [7][8]

Note: Reasoning for parents of Mattie Harrison. Data <u>1. The following census ages are given for MattieMartha. Given Name Census year Age Birthplace. M. E. 1880 30 years old Texas. Martha E 1900 September 1849 Texas. Martha E 1910 61 years old Texas. M. E. 1920 70 years old Texas. Based on this information her birth year is 1849 and her birthplace is Texas. 2. The following information on her parent's birthplace is given in the census returns. Census year Father's birthplace Mother's birthplace. 1880 Illinois Illinois. 1900 Tennessee Illinois. 1910 Tennessee Illinois. 1920 Tennessee Illinois. 3. Based on this information, it appears that she (or whoever answered the census-taker) believed that her father to be born in Tennessee and her mother was born in Illinois. However, no persons listed in Texas in the 1850 census are shown as born in Illinois, and this information is in conflict with other data and other sources. It is not known why this data is so consistent, and yet based on other information, does not appear to be correct. 4. Her death certificate shows her birthplace as Texas which is consistent with all other information. It gives her father's name as William Harrison and her mother's name as Miss Lunsford. This information was reported by her son, C. J. Cook, who is probably where they were living with before her death. Note that he reported that both her father and mother were born in Illinois, although based on other census birthplace information, that is in error for both. 5. Her obituary is not available. 6. Her marriage certificate has not been found. Family history states that she was married in Hill County, but the courthouse has burned down since 1870. Therefore no maiden name information has been found in marriage records. 1880 census data - No marriage information is given. 1900 census data - States the couple had been married for 30 years. 1910 census data - States the couple had been married for 40 years. 1920 census data - No marriage information is given. Since their first child was 7 years old in the 1880 census and the 1900 and 1910 censuses do not show any deceased children, it is reasonable to assume a marriage date of approximately 1870, although it could have been as late as 1872. 7. On their individual death certificates, her children show their mother's name and birthplace as follows: Child Mother's Maiden name Mother's birthplace. William Doak Cook Unknown Unknown. Walter Anderson Cook Mattie Harrison Tennessee. Charles Joseph Cook Mattie Harrison Unknown. Thomas Marvin Cook Mattie Elizabeth Howard Texas. Florence Elizabeth Jones Unknown Unknown. Ethel Gertrude Aytes No data available No data available. Minnie V Fallin No data available No data available. Bertie E. Hendrix Mattie Harrison Hill County, Texas. 8. There are no females named Mattie or Martha Harrison born in 1849 (plus/minus 2 years) in Texas in the 1850 census. There is one female named Marthy E. born in about 1848 in Texas whose father's name is Samuel born in Tennessee. The mother in this family is shown as born in Tennessee also. This family could not be located in 1860. 9. There is one female born in about 1847 (age is given as 3 years old) named Margaret E. The father's name is Jacob born in Texas and the mother is born in Mississippi. 10. There are 4 persons named Mary Harrison (a possible variant that could be rendered as Mattie) with the same search characteristics. The father of these families is born in Tennessee, Texas, Mississippi and Virginia. There is no William Harrison with a daughter named Mary in this sort. 11. There are also no Mattie Howard entries in the 1850 census. 12. There are no females named Mattie or Martha Harrison born in 1849 (plus/minus 2 years) in Texas in the 1860 census. There are also no Mattie Howard entries in the 1860 census. 13. There are 4 men named William Harrison born in Tennessee in the 1850 Texas census (no age restraint was made). Only two have families, and neither have children that matches in age or name to Martha/Mattie. 14. There are 25 people named William Harrison in Texas in the 1850 census (no birthplace restraint). Of those, 14 individuals are old enough to have a daughter in 1850 (greater than 18 years of age). Of those 14, only six men have families and children in the household. Only 3 of these families have children of the right age. The closest match is a Madara Harrison age 2. There are also 3 men with the initial 'W' and none of these have any children. 15. In 1860, there are 6 persons named Mary Harrison (a possible variant that could be rendered as Mattie) with the same search characteristics as listed above. The father of these families is born in Tennessee, Texas, Mississippi. There is no William Harrison with a daughter named Mary in this sort. 16. There are no men named William Harrison born in Tennessee in the 1860 Texas census. There are 6 people named William Harrison in Texas in the 1860 census who are old enough (about 28 years old). Only 3 have families with children and none are in the age range that is desired. 17. There are 16 men with the initial 'W' in the 1860 Texas census. 12 have children. Only one has a female child of the right age with the daughter's name now rendered as Madora. <u>Analysis 1. There is family legend that has the parents of Mattie named William and Elizabeth. The same family information also states that she was born in Titus County, Texas. No sources have been found for either of these. 3. William's wife is given as Elizabeth. Other sources give this woman's maiden name as Shields, born in Tennessee in about 1829. The same sources show that she died in 1853 and was buried in Red River County. These same sources do not give any marriage information on Elizabeth. They also do not give any information for Madora's marriage later in life. 4. Although Titus County was in existence in 1850, as shown above there are no candidates in that county for either 1850 or 1860. However, Titus County is located adjacent to Red River County. 5. MadaraMedoraMadora is not a common name, and it is not obvious how the name would be abbreviated. However it is possible that it could be rendered as Mattie.

Census: 1900 Note: 1900 census shows she had 8 children and all were alive at time of census. 1910 Note: 1910 census shows she had 8 children with all alive.

Buried Graham, Young County, Texas, United States.

Event: acute appendicitis. Cause of death.
