Biography

John Hart, eldest son of John and Susannah (Rush) Hart, was born in Byberry, Bucks county, Pennyslvania on July 16, 1684. John was sheriff of Bucks county, 1737 - 1739, 1743-1745 and 1749. He was coroner of Bucks county, in 1741 and 1748 and was commissioned Justice on June 9, 1752. He was succeeded by his son Joseph as Justice, in 1761.

John was baptized at Pennepack Baptist Church on November 15, 1706, by the Reverend Evan Morgan. On November 25, 1708, John married Eleanor Crispin, daughter of Silas and Esther (Holme) Crispin, and grand-daughter of Thomas Holme, Penn's surveyor general and of Captain William Crispin, one of Penn's commissioners for settling the Colony of Pennyslvania. John and Eleanor (Crispin) Hart were the parents of ten children.

John inherited from his father a large portion of the Warminster homestead and erected the family mansion there in 1750. John was one of the organizers of the Southampton Baptist Church in 1746 and served as clerk, deacon and trustee until his death March 22, 1763. John is buried in the cemetery of the church he helped to found, in the Old School Baptist Meeting House Cemetery (also known as Southampton Baptist Cemetery) [1] There is a photograph of his headstone on his Find A Grave memorial page.
