John James Hart ran off and left Sarah E. when Hettie was 2 weeks old. A revival meeting was in progress. He took the best wagon and team and ran off with the songleader. This was near Granbury, Texas. Grandpa Bates took them all in to raise them. They got water out of Pulaski Creek. Leola Hart went swimming there. Grandpa Bates also raised Nora Bates Castleberry Austin, a cousin. She was a schoolteacher. Granpa Hart taught his kids to sing. Harts looked reddish. Grandpa Bates and Sarah B. Hart are buried at the cemetery at Elk City, Oklahoma on the old, original site." quote from Charlie Evans. John James may have never remarried but raised the 2 daughters. They were in Tolar, Texas.
