Margaret (Marguerite) was Yancton and a Nemaha allottee. Margaret and Henri had 3 children before 1860 who were also Nemaha allottees. They would have nine more children but as they were not Nemaha allottees I will not be listing them.
Half-breed is a derogatory term but is how the Nemaha Reservation was named when established by the Treaty of Prairie du Chien of 1830. A tract was set aside for "the mixed-ancestry descendants of French-Canadian trappers and women of the Oto, Iowa, and Omaha, as well as the Yankton and Santee Sioux tribes." See Wikipedia's entry [1] for more information.
In the 1856 census the Langdo family was living with the Valandre family, also found in the Nemaha Reservation allotments. Jacob Pauly lived nearby, who was married to Mary Tinker. Mary Tinker's brother, George Tinker, married, first, Maria "Lucretia" La Chapelle, an Osage and French Canadian, in 1838 at Highland, Doniphan, Kansas where he was a blacksmith and gunsmith at the Sac and Fox Mission. The Tinker family went on to have a number of Osage descendants whose families sometimes are found married to Nemaha allottees.
In the 1860 census the Langdo family is found beside that of Stephen Story and Elizabeth "Betsy" Cedar Story, who was an Ioway woman on the Nemaha allotments.
