Note

Note:
Her date of birth (May 15, 1828) was taken from Deardorff Family Bible. Her date of birth was listed as May 10, 1928 in the Harter Journal by Byron Harter of W. Alexandria, Ohio (sent to me by Preble Co. Ohio District Library in Eaton, Ohio 09-29-1992 by Susan H. Kendall, Director.
Her date of marriage was not listed in Bible so I used info provided by Byron Harter in Harter Journal.
The following handwritten note on lined tablet paper was found in the Samuel Long Family Bible:
Rebecca H. Deardorff died May 12,1910, aged 81 years, 11 months and 27 days. In the year of 1848, she was united in marriage to Jacob Deardorff who died at their home in Roann, Indiana some twenty years ago in early life. The young couple united with the German Baptist Church in June 1883 a few weeks after the Dayton, Ohio conference during a meeting held by the writer in Roann. Sister Deardorff cast her lot with whom the writer extended the hand of Church fellowship after the Dayton conference. Sister Deardorff was a woman who thought for herself and possessed more than ordinary strength of character which aided her much in leading a consistent Christian life. A few weeks before her heath, she called for the elders of the church and was annointed with oil in the name of the Lord. Frequent religious sermons in her sick room were by her requested, held during her sickness, in which she cheerfully joined. Her prayers and testimonies were full of hope and cheer, her triumph seemed complete. An appropriate funeral sermon was preached by her pastor E.D. Burnworth, based on 11 Corinthians 4:17. A brief message of comfort was also delivered by the Writer, W.J.H Bauman (Bowman; Baufman?)
Burial is at I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Roann, IN
Death Certificate is at Wabash Health Dept. (It says she died at 81 yrs, 11 mo, & 28 days. But, according to computer calendar- it was 27 days as above note says.)
