John was born in 1613. His father was Alexander Hartley. He was christened on 20 December 1813 at Ecclesfield, Yorkshire, England.[1]
John married Elizabeth Wood in 1639 at Wakefield, Yorkshire.[2]
John marred Sibbell Lawson on 22 Novemebr 1642 at All Saints Church, Wakefield, Yorkshire,[3]
john passed away in 1662.
"Research shows that a John Hartley came to Charleston, S.C. in 1671 and received a number of grants of land in and around Charleston" (Batesburg-Leesville Area History, 1946). *Needs to be confirmed, considering his listed death year.

The earliest Hartley I have is Stephen (http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hartley-621), also born in Yorkshire in 1673 and settled in Charleston; he lived in Christ Church near Mt. Pleasant. Not sure how/if he is related to John, but his father's name may have been David (http://www.thegagenweb.com/gacrawfo/familygroupsheets/hartley.htm).
