William and his wife Mary moved to Tarkastad, where Casper, the third of their eight children was born on the farm "Morning Sun" on March 6, 1836.

Died at the residence of his daughter Sarah Ann and Kidger Tucker

Hartley, John - 1796-1866, A son of Thomas Hartley.

He sailed on the "Albury" on 13 February 1820 with Calton's Party.

Listed as a son on the death notice of Thomas Hartley Snr.

In 1846 he was elected a Municipal Commissioner for Grahamstown.

He composed the "Trials and Troubles of the Settlers" in verse.
