Elsje Maria Magdalena van Emmenes was born on August 21, 1829 in Swartberg, Cape Colony, South Africa, daughter of Gerrit van Emmenes (1799–~1852) and Susanna Maria le Grange (1805–1875).
Elsje (19) married Joseph Jacobus Johannes Hartman (31) (born about 1817 in Swartberg, Malmesbury, Cape Province; son of Hendrik Jan Paul Hartman and Martha Johanna (Carelsen) Hartman) in 1849 in Schoemansdal, Soutpansberg. Their son was Hendrik Adriaan Paul Hartman (1851–1898).
Elsje (22) married Johannes Zacharias Helberg (41) (born on April 29, 1811 in Graaff-Reinet, Potgietersrus, Transvaal; son of Adam Hendrik (Hellberg) Helberg and Maria Magdalena (van Jaarsveld) Hellberg) in July, 1852 in Schoemansdal, Soutpansberg, Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek. Their son was Gerhardus Johannes Zacharias Helberg (1853–1926).
Elsje (42) married Frans Johannes Jacobus Du Preez (43) (born on October 6, 1828; son of Johannes Lodewicus du Preez and Hendriettha Wilhelmina (Klaasen) du Preez) in 1872.
Elsje died on July 9, 1887 in Schoemansdal, Transvaal, South Africa, aged 57.[1]
