Biography

Sallie Harvey was born on May 15, 1865 in Mississippi, USA as a child of an unknown Sullivan and an unknown Harvey.

She died on May 27, 1950 in Mississippi, USA (Age at Death: 85).

When she was 38, she married Daniel Sutton on May 17, 1903 in Simpson County, Mississippi, USA. [1] They divorced prior to the 1910 census after her spouse wanted her to move away from her child's family.

She lived in Beat 1, Simpson, Mississippi, USA in 1910 (Age: 40; Marital Status: Widowed; Relation: Mother-in-law).

She lived in Beat 1, Simpson County, Mississippi, USA in 1920 (Age: 40; Marital Status: Widowed; Relation: Mother-in-law).

Joe Runnels [uncertain] and Sallie Harvey (not married but raped) had the following child:

  1. Joanna "Johanna Harvey" Harvey was born on Jan 23, 1884 in Mississippi, USA. She died on Nov 30, 1911 in Mississippi, USA (Age at Death: 27). She married Tillman Webster Bishop on Dec 10, 1899 in Simpson County, Mississippi, USA.

Sallie only had one child.

Research Notes

Her 1900 census record gives her status as widowed mother-in-law but she was not married at that time. Her daughter was the result of a rape. She did briefly marry Daniel Sutton but did not stay with him. She lived with her son-in-law even after her daughter died at a very young age. She helped raised her daughter's three children. Was told that her mother was a Harvey and her dad was a Sullivan but they were not married. Bishop-4082 13:41, 7 January 2017 (EST)

I have attached Sallie (Harvey) Sutton as a child of Margaret Harvey only based upon mtDNA test results for Bea (Canoy) Kennedy. Oral history tells me that Sallie Harvey was born to an unmarried female Harvey with a Sullivan father. The mtDNA test results match that of Beth (Power) Hinton and Ronald Moore. Both Beth and Ronald leads back to Maude Elizabeth (Arnold) Sullivan. Then the only child of Maude that married a Harvey is Margaret "Peggy" (Sullivan) Harvey. Margaret "Peggy" (Sullivan) Harvey did have six daughters but daughter Margaret is the only one without a spouse and further history. I will continue to review and will see what the Autosomal DNA test results will yield for Bea (Canoy) Kennedy. Bishop-4082 21:52, 27 May 2017 (EDT)

No census records have been found for Margaret Harvey or Sallie Harvey in the 1870 and 1880 censuses. Even the history of the Sullivan Family has no data for Margaret Harvey after the 1866 census (Mississippi, Compiled Census and Census Substitutes Index, 1805-1890). [3]

The 1866 census has an entry for Peggy Harvey, the mother with one male and two females in the household. Next door is her son, Isaac. BUT if Sallie Harvey was born in 1865 she was not accounted for in this census.

Peggy Harvey entry:
0-1 male
> 10 < 20 Thomas S. b. 1852, age:14
0-1-1-0-0-0-1 female
> 10 < 20 Brenda Mary "Polly" Harvey, 1850, age: 16
> 20 < 30 Margaret Harvey, 1844, age: 22
> 60 < 70 Peggy Harvey, b. 1812, age: 54 (her age would be off) [4]
