John Gillespy (Gillispy) married Jane Harvey in Botetourt County, Virginia.[1][2] He was presumably less than 21 years of age at the time, as his parents Simon Gillespy and Rebecah Gillespy gave their consent for him to marry on 12 August 1779. On 13 August 1779, John Gillespy (Gillispy) and Mich'l Wooley posted bond for the marriage, and David May witnesssed the bond.
The posting of bond on 13 August 1799 for the marriage of James Gillispie to Elizabeth Gillispie is listed immediately above in the register.[3][2] That bond was posted by Robert Gillespy and James Gillespy, and witnessed by Edward Crawford and William Gillespy.

Birth
An alternate birth is 17 Apr 1762 in Botetourt County, Colony of Virginia.
Marriage
John's biography previously did not match the marriage register record as to the details of the marrage record. The record (image available in the citation) lists:
Date of Bond: 13 August 1779
Husband: John Gillispy
Wife: Jane Harvey
Parents or Guardian of Husband: Simon and Rebeccah Gillespy - consent of
Parents of Guardian of Wife: [none listed]
Security and Witnesses: Michael Wooley
The record says John is the son of Simon and Rebeccah. It does not say Jane is the step-daughter of Simon and the daughter of Rebeccah. That they gave their consent implies John was less than 21 years of age at the time.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Jane by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jane:
Harvey-3019 and Gillespie-3788 appear to represent the same person because: The two people were clearly the same person, but originally erroneously attached to the wrong parents.
Gillespie-3788 and Harvey-3019 appear to represent the same person because: These are intended to be the same person, although the name of Rebecca Harvey Gillespie is not formatted in a way that distinguishes her maiden and married names. Her dates and husband John are the same on both profiles, but parents are different. Since permission for her marriage was given by Rebecca (Carruthers) Gillespie, Rebecca was probably Jane's mother.
