Biography

Deacon Francis Haskell; baptized 18 Jun 1722 at Gloucester, Essex, Massachusetts s/o Mark Haskell and Jemimah Tilton;

m. Elizabeth Wheeler, daughter of Abijah Wheeler and Elizabeth Andrews, 20 Nov 1745 at Ipswich, Essex, Massachusetts;

He died 1791 at Deer Isle, Hancock, Maine.

Francis was born about 1722, Francis Haskell in Gloucester, Essex, MA, USA. He passed away in 1791. [1] [2] He was known as Deacon.

"A Historical Sketch of the Town of Deer Isle, with Notices of Its Settlers and Early Inhabitants by George L. Hosmer": A son of the person before named [Mark Haskell], Francis Haskell was the settler upon the land adjoining on the southeast. He came from Newburyport in 1770 with his family, and but few of his children were born after he came here. When the church was organized, in 1773, he was one of the deacons. The time of his death is unknown to us, but it was prior to the survey of the island, as his lot was assigned to his two sons, Jonathan and Tristram Haskell (two hundred acres). He left four sons, namely: Francis, who removed to South Thomaston and lived on what is known as Ash Point, and died there not far from 1841, over ninety years of age; Jonathan, who lived here till his death; Abijah, before noticed; and Tristram. Of the daughters, one was the wife of Mr. Peter Hardy, Sr.; one, of Mr. William Eaton, 2d; another married Captain Ephraim Marshall; another was the wife of Deacon Joshua Haskell; another, of Mr. Prescott Powers, and the other, that of Captain Francis Marshall. His land was owned and occupied by his two sons during their lives, and is now chiefly owned by their descendants.

Francis was born in Gloucester on 18 Jun 1722, the son of Mark and Jemima.[3] Francis Hascall passed away in 1791.

Hascall-51 and Haskell-319 appear to represent the same person because: His descendants in Hancock County Maine use the Haskell spelling.

There are probably more early spelling variations found.
