Cornelius Harry Haskins was born in about 1872 at Deddington in Oxfordshire, the son of William Haskins and Elizabeth his wife ^{[1] [2]}. He was baptised at the parish church on 11 February 1872 ^[3]. A birth date of 27 Dec 1871 is given by the 1939 register^[4].

In 1881, he was living at 30 Windsor Street in Neithrop, Banbury, with his parents, brothers, and sister. His age was given as 9, implying a birth date in 1871 or 1872. His birthplace was given as Deddington, Oxfordshire. He was at school ^[2].
