Susannah Marsden Hassall was born on 28th July 1806 at Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia. She was the seventh of nine children, and third daughter, of Rowland Hassall, a former missionary to Tahiti, and his wife, Elizabeth Hancox.[1] She was christened in 1806 in St John's Church of England, Parramatta, by the man she was named for, Reverend Samuel Marsden, with whom her father worked.[2]
She married William Shelley, the son of one of Susannah's father's missionary associates, in 1827 in St John's Church of England, Parramatta.[3] William passed away in 1844.
Susannah passed away on 15th August 1890 at Bowral, New South Wales. She was survived by her daughter, Elizabeth, and her younger sister by just one year.[4]
