Benjamin Hatch was born in North Carolina. According to the referenced Whitfield book, Benjamin was born 5 May 1781.[1]
He married (2nd wife) Catherine Eliza Green in North Carolina in 1829, when she was 20 (he was about 51). His first wife, Sarah Whitfield, died in 1821, according to other Ancestry.com family histories, unsourced except for the cited 1934 SAR application.
A Texas Death Certificate for daughter Laura (Hatch) Morrill, names her parents Benjamin Hatch (b. NC) and Eliza Green (b. NC).
The 1830 Census of Hinds Co, Mississippi, lists a Benjamin Hatch in a family with: 1 white male 60-69, 1 w female 20-29, one w male under 5, 1 w male 10-14, and four slaves. Our Benjamin would be 52 and his second wife 21 in 1830, so unless there was a recording error (it's only off by one column), this may not be him.
Benjamin is not listed with his family in the 1850 Census of Walker County, Texas. His wife is listed as widowed and her youngest son reported as 9 (born abt. 1841) This implies Benjamin came to Texas with his family before 1841 and died in Texas between 1841 and 1850, consistent with the cited SAR record listing his DOD as 1843.
