Biography

Sarah's birthdate is estimated at 1662 by Hatcher Families Genealogy Assocation researchers, 1666 by other researchers cited below.

"Matthew, born 1664; married Sarah Hatcher, daughter of Edward Hatcher and died 1689. He had sons Henry and Matthew; daughter, Cicely. The widow married, October 16, 1689, Jos. Tanner. Mathew Turpin's estate divided December 2, 1689. (Deed Book 5, page 104, Henrico County Records.)" [1]

 :"Some Virginia Marriages" by Wulfeck, p. 225: Matthew Turpin m. 1686 Henrico Co., Sarah Hatcher, she dau of Ed., Henrico.

"Matthew Turpin, the only known son of the immigrant Michael, married Sarah Hatcher and had issue by her of at least one son, named Henry, who died about 1770, leaving issue by his wife Mary of another Henry Turpin, who married Ann Williamson and died in 1782, leaving at least one son, also named Henry." Henrico Co., VA - "Will of Mathew Turpin mentions wife, Sarah. Eldest son, Henry; son to be named Mathew, also Mr. Thomas Osborne. (January 15, 1688, and April, 1689, pp. 41 and 106) and (Book 5, p. 246)."40


Henrico Court, October 1, 1689, upon petition of Mr. Joseph Tanner, who married the executrix of Mathew Turpin, deceased, it is ordered that between this and next court the cattle and horses of yee deceased be according to his last will divided betwee ye executrix and children. (Henrico Records, Vol. 1678-1693, pg. 314.) Henrico Court September 2, 1695, ordered Mr. Joseph Tanner be summoned to next court to give new security for Mathew Turpin's orphans' estate. (Henrico Records, Vol. 1699-1739, pg. 38.)[3]

Mathew Turpin of Henrico, will dated Jan. 15, 1688, probated April 1, 1689, eldest son Henry, all my lands and in case of death without male heirs to my son designed to be called Mathew; in case of death of both without male heirs then land to revert Mr. Tho Osborne and his heirs; cattle, horses, &c. to be equally divided between wife and children; wife Sarah, sole executor. (Henrico Records, Vol. 1688-1697, pg. 41)
