In 1773, he married Jael Smith (1754-1841)[3][4] at Bennington, Bennington, Vermont.[5]

Shadrach was a soldier of the American Revolution. According to his widow's testimony, he went into Canada in 1775 and was in the Battle of Bennington in 1777.[4] In May 1781, he served in the company of Captain Samuel Robinson.
[7] A pension was awarded for his service.[8]
The 1790 census for Bennington, Bennington, Vermont, enumerates Shadrach as a head of household with a family of six.[9] In 1800, his family has grown to nine.[10] By 1810, the Hathaways have moved to Swanton, Franklin, Vermont, with a family of eight.[11]
Shadrach Hathaway passed away on 26 May 1815 in Vermont.[4]
