Marcus was born about 1790. He is the son of Joab Jacob Hatley and Elizabeth Parrish. He passed away about 1874. [1]

1850 Census of Hardin Co., TN shows Mark Hatley as head of household at age 61, with female Dilly, age 61, Male Jessee (Laborer) age 27, female Mary age 25, and female Francis age 19. Mark's profession is listed as Baptist Clergyman. The three younger members of the household were born in TN and Mark and Dilly were born in NC. Dilly, Jessee, and Mary could read/write.
