Biography

Mary Anne Havens was born to Daniel and Christian Fleming Havens in 1728.^[1] Another source identifies her birth as 1730. ^[2]

The Genealogical and Personal Memorial of Mercer County, New Jersey reports this information: “Daniel, son of John and Anna (Stannard) Havens, was born in Middletown, Monmouth Co., and married __?__ Christian, who bore him eight children: George, Anna, Daniel, John, Mary, Margaret, Christian, and Ann. Little is known of Daniel, the father, beyond the supposed fact that he lived the quiet life of a fairly prosperous Monmouth Co. farm owner.” [It is supposed the name confusion for Mary Ann or Anne Havens developed from this list of siblings. --Allen Brown] ^[3]

It is generally agreed Havens' daughter, who married Willaim Daniel Newberry, was called Anne. ^{[1] [4] [5]} However, she is referred to as "Mary" in the Comfort Thomas Paper. ^[6]

Mary Anne Havens married William Daniel Newberry on April 25, 1748. ^{[1] [2]} He has been reported to have been born in 1726 ^[2], and 1730. ^[1] Their marriage license information was recorded in New Jersey, Marriage Records, 1683-1802. ^[5] William Daniel Newberry was commonly called "Daniel", perhaps because his father was also named William.

Her husband, Willaim "Daniel" Newberry was a Private in the 3rd Regiment, Monmouth County, New Jersey Militia. ^[1] Daniel was killed in a skirmish at Grander's Hills on June 28, 1778 near the battle of Monmouth Courthouse in New Jersey. ^[7]

Date of death for Mary Anne Havens Newberry has been reported as early as 1789 in Monmouth County, to as late as 1830 in Brown County, Ohio. Her husband died in 1778. ^{[1] [7]} [I'm looking for information about a pension, property, or her death and burial after the death of Daniel in 1778. I haven't found her in Gloucester, where the rest of the family moved and lived before their move in 1818 to Ohio. Allen Brown]
