Biography

Obituary -

Mrs. Rebekah M. Baker, the oldest resident of this village, died at an early hour at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clara E. Brown, in the 91st year of her age. Mrs. Baker was a remarkable woman and was in the possession of most of her faculties until very shortly before her death, which was due to pneumonia.

She was the widow of the late Captain James Baker, a veteran of the Civil War, and was the last of the Daniel T. Havens family of Moriches. She was one of a family of three sisters, all of whom died this year.

Her home has been in Sayville for the past 40 years. She was beloved and esteemed by all who knew her, for many qualities of heart and mind. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Clara E. Brown and Mrs. Lewis Noe and by a son, Jeremiah Baker of Newark, N.J.

The funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from the residence of Mrs. Brown on South Main Street. The Rev. J.H. Prescott of St. Ann's Church will conduct the services. The pall bearers will be six members of the Grand Army of the Republic. The interment will be in the Union Cemetery.
