George Washington Haviland, son of Benjamin Haviland & Lucy Craw, was born 14 Jan 1843 in Norfolk County, Ontario. He married 26 May 1863 in Washington, D.C. to Louisa Belle Turner. (She may have been a nurse in D.C. where she met her future husband George while in the hospital. But this is speculation.)
George has a military gravestone: Company A, 1st Mich. Infantry. His death certificate states he was a farmer though he was a Justice of the Peace in Tittabawassi Township, Saginaw, MI. The death record states his father was Joseph and mother unknown, presumably because when he immigrated out of Canada into America he did not connect his descendants to his parents or ancestors. According to the General's Report: Goerge resided in Kent County and was discharged for disability on 17 Nov 1862.[1] George enlisted at Ann Arbor, 6 Jul 1861 for 3 years at age 18. He mustered 13 Jul 1861. He was discharged from Washington, D.C. 17 Nov 1862 for wounds received in action on 20 Aug 1862. He signed George Bennett's Naturalization Papers and stated his profession was Justice of the Peace.
George died 14 Sep 1921 in Saginaw, MI of Arteriorsclorosis.
