Biography
According to her death record, Ethel Josephine HAWK was born about 9 July 1888 and died on 6 May 1936 in Kingsport, Sullivan County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Jesse HAWK and Nancy Jane NEIGHBERT / NIGHBERT.
Although her death record lists her birth in Iowa, it is more probable that she was born in Sullivan County, Tennessee where her parents were enumerated in the 1880 census record[1] and 1900 census records.[2]
Wikitree Unlinked Connections: According to submissions on FamilySearch tree, her paternal grandparents were John HAWK and Mary ROGERS. Further research required to connect these two profiles (mainly information on Jesse HAWK for profile creation and documentation proving parentage between Jesse HAWK and John HAWK).
Fact: Burial Beulah Community Cemetery, Kingsport, Sullivan County, Tennessee, USA
She was first married on 17 June 1904 in Sullivan County, Tennessee to Martin BOWERY.[3]
Research Notes: Martin BOWERY had previously been married to Ollie SMITH on 10 October 1900 in Sullivan County, Tennessee.[4] Ollie Smith died on 13 August 1903. There appears to have been no children from his marriage to Ollie SMITH (sometimes seen on researcher's trees as Rachael Olivine SMITH).
Her second marriage was to Frank Daniel PITTS. This marriage probably occurred between 6 July 1912, when her first husband died, and 5 August 1915, when her first child by her second marriage was born.
