In 1908 and 1909 Lilian won a free place to study at Secondary School.

She was appointed a pupil-teacher at Timaru Main School in 1911. She was living at St Andrews at the time.

Lilian studied at Otago University between 1911 and 1918, where she passed examinations for Latin

She met her future husband, Christopher ap Rhys Davies at Otago. Christopher was sent overseas during World War 1. He was a member of the New Zealand Medical Corps, once he had graduated, He was away from 9 March 1917 to 26 March 1919. They became engaged in 1917 but couldn't marry until Christopher returned.

She taught at Solway College, Masterton until December 1919.

She married Christopher ap Rhys Davies on the 4th February 1920 at Timaru.[10][11]
Their first home was in Dunedin, where Christopher may have been studying for a Diploma in Public Health.
In 1921 they moved to Christchurch and were living in Springfield Road.

Lilian and Christopher were registered to vote in Frankton, near Hamilton, New Zealand in 1922. They were living in Seddon road and Christopher was working as a medical practitioner.[13]
In November 1924 Lilian and Christopher moved to Manaia, Taranaki. They lived in Ngatai Street and Christopher was a general practitioner with a small cottage hospital.

Lilian and Christopher moved to Wanganui in 1937, where they lived at 279 Victoria Avenue. Christopher practised as a doctor from a surgery in the front garden.
Lilian died at Wanganui, Manawatu, New Zealand on the 22nd October 1977 and was buried at St Mary's Church, Karori, Wellington, New Zealand.[15][16]
