Mary was born in 1882 in Balloo, Islandmagee, County Antrim, Ireland, the daughter of Robert Hawthorn and Mary McAuley. Her birth was registered by Isabella Fleck of Ballymoney, Islandmagee.[1] Mary was baptised on 17th July 1882 in 1st Islandmagee Presbyterian Church.[2]
In 1901 Mary Ann was living with her family at 232 Oldpark Road. She was an assistant grocer.[3]
In 1908 she emigrated with her family to New Zealand and in 1909 she married Ernest Cecil Somerville in New Zealand.[4]
Mary Ann passed away in 1965, age 82, in Sunshine North, Victoria, Australia[5] and is interred in Footscray Cemetery, Victoria, Australia.[6]
