Message from one of Walter's neices: Uncle Walt was a sharecropper and did a lot of trapping for beaver and muskrats. I can remember riding in his old Studebaker that had no back seat with his daughter Dora Jean. We would put a little gas in the car and Uncle Walt would coast down every hill to save gas. Our biggest thrill was getting to put a watermelon out of the garden in the spring to cool so the kids could share it. Children: Cora Hawthorne Garrett Rhoem, Dora Jean Dobson, Ressie Jo Hawthorne, Sue Hawthorne Trotter, Pete Hawthorne, Ray Hawthorne, John L. Hawthorne, Tee Hawthorne, Mack Hawthorne, Benny Hawthorne, Mary Alice Hawthorne, Katie Lee Hawthorne, Unnamed infant daughter, Bruce Hawthorne, Irene Hawthorne, Peggy Hawthorne,.

Daughter;-->>Ressie Jo Hawthorne Evatt, 68, widow of Robert Henry Evatt, passed away Friday, May 20, 2016.
Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Thomas and Cora Browning Lee Hawthorne. She was the owner of RJE Businesses in Alaska and S.C. She was a member of Mt. Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughters, Angela Annette Evatt of the home, Teresa Jo Evatt Hegdahl (Eric) of Slana, Alaska, Kristi Lee Evatt Moore of Anderson; son, Robert Anthony Evatt of Williamston; sisters, Cora Roehm of Easley, Sue Hawthorne Trotter of Pelzer, Dora Dobson of Piedmont; brothers, Ray Hawthorne of Belton and Pete Hawthorne of Pelzer; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.
