Biography

John was born in 1886 in Balloo, Islandmagee, County Antrim, Ireland, the son of Robert Hawthorn and Mary Ann McAuley. His birth was registered by Martha McGowan of Balloo.[1] He was baptised on 16-Sep886 in 1st Islandmagee Presbyterian Church.[2]

Research Notes

In the 1901 census there is a John Hawthorn living with a Phillips family in Whitehead, Templecorran. John Phillips is a grocer and John Hawthorn is described as an errand boy/servant. Could this be John? However he is recorded as Methodist, although the rest of the family living at 232 Oldpark Road are also recorded as Methodist.[3] There is no record of him in the 1911 Census or no obvious record of a marriage or death.

This was in the biography 'He did not emigrate to New Zealand with the rest of his family.' However John is recorded on the passenger list along with his siblings.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
