Clara's father died in 1882,[1] and her mother died a short time later in 1884.[2] By 1891 Clara and her siblings are scattered. Clara ended up with her aunt Martha Rankin and her family in Brighton.[3]
In 1905 she married the merchant John Armstrong in Toronto.[4] By 1921, they were living at 18 Sydenham Street in Guelph, Ontario. Her husband is listed as a dry goods merchant and they have a boy Paul who is nine and a daughter Norah who is fourteen.[5]
In 1927, the family took a trip to the British Isles, arriving in Glasgow, Scotland from Montreal on board the Anchor Line's Letitia on July 11th. They listed their destination as 38 Knox Street in Sligo, Ireland.[6] They returned to Canada on board the Canadian Pacific's ship Melita, departing Belfast, Northern Ireland on August 27th.[7]
