Biography

Samuel Hayes "of Salmon Brook Ct."...

In 1806 Samuel Hayes III bought from the U.S. Government 2,000 acres of land in Prattsburg Steuben County, then a part of the town of Bath, New York. He and his family moved there about that year and lived there the rest of his life[1]
Samuel Hayes III was a second cousin of Rutherford Hayes, Sr., the grandfather of Rutherford Birchard Hayes, born 4 October 1822 died 17 January 1893 19th President of the United States.
Thus all grandchildren of Samuel and Anna (Pettibone) Hayes were fourth cousins of the President and later generations, of course, are successively more distantly related.
