Biography
"Sanford-Shulton Family" at Ancestry.com says: Jacobus said that Nathaniel Hayes and his brother Samuel were most likely children of the first wife of Nathaniel Richards of Norwalk, for Samuel called Richards "father" and received a legacy in his will.
From my (who is the "me" in this sentence?) Grandmother Brott's "Hayes Mead" manuscript (compiled in 1942-1944) she has noted:
"Nathaniel Hayes was born about 1629, at or near Exeter, in the southwestern part of England. Migrated to America as a young man and was one of the original purchasers of the site of Norwalk, Conneticut, from the Indians, in 1651. Died 1707. His wife, probably the second, was Mary Kimberly, born about 1643, the daughter of Sergeant Thomas and Alice Kimberly. In his will, dated 1682, Sergeant Thomas mentioned his grandchildren, Nathaniel, Mary, and Elizabeth Hayes. Married, 1664.
(as of 1944) There is no record of his ever holding any public office, but he was a man of good estate. In 1687 he was taxed on 215 Pounds. His will, dated April 27th, 1705, according to the Fairfield, Connecticut Probate Records, Vol. 1752-1750: left 30 pounds to his son Nathaniel; 15 pounds to his son Samuel; land to his daughter Rachel Messenger; and the residue to his son James, who was named as sole executor. The inventory of March 14, 1706-1707, showed a total of 398 pounds, and was made out by William Haines, Andrew Messenger, and Samuel Hayes.
His name was in the Norwalk list of 1655. In 1689, he was among the amount the Norwalk Freemen, and in 1672, among the petitioners for the establishment of Danbury, Connecticut.
Trumbull records: "A true and perfect List of all the Freemen appertaininge unto the plantation of Norwake. Taken this 11th of October, 1669, and to be presented unto the Honored Court assembled ... Nathl Haies ... Samll Haies".
Nathaniel and Samuel were among the petitioners for the establishment of Danbury in 1672.
Jacobus says "From an entry made by Winthrop, it appears that he was a kinsman of Nicholas Olmstead of Hartford. Jacobus does not give the dates of birth of the children, but names them and says Nathaniel had seven children in 1672.
John Bouton, Jr. of Danbury receipted 8 March 1699 to father-in-law Nathaniel Hayes of Norwalk for land where he built his house in Norwalk.
The will of Nathaniel Hayes Sr. of Norwalk is dated 27 April 1705. It gives son Nathaniel L30; son Samuel L15; daughter Rachel Messenger, land; son James, residue. Witnesses Peter Burr and William Haines.
Inventory was taken 12 March 1706/1707 by William Haines, Andrew Messenger and Samuel Hayes; it was valued at L398.

Hayes-16022 and Hayes-388 appear to represent the same person because: Same father (dupes pending merge), same spouse (dupes pending merge), birthplace is unsourced on -16022 and should be England per -388. Same death year, both in Connecticut. Please merge
We need to find a source for the claimed father. Jacobus only says that Nathaniel and Samuel were brothers and that their mother was probably a wife of Nathaniel Richards.
Hayes-5952 and Hayes-388 appear to represent the same person because: I had the wrong birth date so my initial search for Nathaniel Hayes didn't show a result. It wasn't until I went to connect Mary Kimberly that I saw the Hayes-388. Please merge my unnecessary creation so it doesn't linger to confuse anyone.
Hayes-865 and Hayes-388 appear to represent the same person because: They are the same man who is the husband of Mary Kimberly Kimberly-45 (who is supposed to also be merged with her duplicate Kimberly-93)
