Mr Michael Hayes, Michelago.
Further particulars have come to hand regarding the death of Mr. M. Hayes, a respected resident of Michelago, whose sudden demise was described in a recent issue. The deceased had been at the church on the evening of his death with a number of parishioners, who has assembled there to welcome and show respect to Archbishop Kelly on his first visit to Michelago. The deceased presented his Grace with an address of welcome, went to Confession, returned home, had his tea, and appeared in usual health up to about 11 o'clock. A few minutes later he expired suddenly.
On the following morning a Requiem Mass was said for the repose of his soul. The funeral, headed by the Rev. J. H. O'Gorman, took place at 2 o'clock on Sunday afternoon, and was very largely attended.
Mr. Hayes had been a resident of Michelago for over 30 years, during which time he kept a general store, and was a favourite, not only with his neighbours, but the public in general. He was postmaster until the post office was amalgamated with the telegraph office and railway department. The deceased was in the 69th year of his age.
He leaves a widow and a family of six sons and five daughters to mourn the loss of a tender husband and an indulgent father. One of the sons, Ambrose, is married, and resides in Sydney. Two of the daughters are married. The oldest, Mrs. Morton, lives at Copmanhurst, where her husband is telegraph-master. The second, Mrs. Cash man, lives in Auburn. Mrs Cashman was on a visit to her father's place at the time of his death. Widespread sympathy is felt for Mrs. Hayes and family in their heavy loss and trial — R. I. P.[1]
