CORONER'S INQUEST.—Dr. Roche, the District Coroner, held an inquest yesterday at the Exe Creek on the body of Catherine Connor, who was unfortunately drowned on the previous day.
The facts, as disclosed by the evidence, were that the deceased was being driven home from Chapel by a man named John Frowley : there were two other women in the cart. They crossed the Exe Creek and were going up the opposite side, which is rather steep, when the horse jibbed and backed the cart into a deep waterhole. The cart turned over and they were all buried beneath it.
Frawley contrived to get to the surface of the water, and then proceeded to the rescue of the women, two of whom he succeeded in saving. He was unable to extricate the deceased for about half an hour, and when taken out of the water she was quite dead.
The jury returned a verdict of accidental death. It is singular that one of the women had a child in her arms, and the little thing is much bruised in consequence of the tight grasp of its mother in her efforts to save it.
Named on the DC of her daughter Mary (Connors) Frawley. Death- 26/10/1899 Reg No. 12417
