The Eunice Hayes who married John St. John was one of two people:
Eunice, daughter of Isaac Hayes and born Norwalk, Connecticut 2 May 1702
Eunice, daughter of James Hayes, and born Norwalk, Connecticut 21 Jan 1704/5[1][2] or 1705[3]
The other Eunice Hayes married first William Fowler Jr.; m2 Stephen Baldwin. We believe Eunice Hayes Fowler Baldwin was the daughter of Isaac: Because Isaac Hayes' widow remarried a man (Sanford) from Milford, it makes sense that a child, Eunice Hayes, would have married in Milford.
The St John genealogy points out that there is difference of opinion about which Eunice married John St John:
"Mrs. R. C. R. says, "b. Norwalk, May 2, 1702; d. Wilton, Apr. 23, 1747. dau. of Isaac and Elizabeth (Sherwood) Hayes" (Selleck, 463). Bela St. John says, "She was the dau. of James Hayes.""[4]
Eunice, daughter of James, is mentioned in his will of 1747, but only by first name.[5]
Eunice, daughter of Isaac, is mentioned in his will of 1712 by Eunice Hayes, but that precedes any marriages.[6]
Eunice Hayes married John St John 29 April 1724 in Wilton, Connecticut [7] Alternate, 19 Apr 1724 in Wilton[8]
Wilton is only 15 miles from Norwalk (home of James Hayes' and his daughter Eunice); whereas Milford (where the other Eunice Hayes was married) is 45 miles from Norwalk, and Eunice, daughter of Israel Hayes was already living in Milford.
Eunice Hayes St John died 23 April 1747, Wilton, Fairfield County, Connecticut. [4]
