Biography

Josiah Haynes immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).

Josiah Haynes was born in Sutton, Mandeville, County of Wilts, England about 1623 ^[1] He was the son of Walter & Elizabeth Haynes and came to Massachusetts Bay Colony with his parents aboard the "Confidence" in 1638. ^[2][3]

Josiah Haynes married Elizabeth Noyes on 13 November 1649 in Sudbury, Massachusetts. ^[4][5]

HAINE, Josiah (1623-) & Elizabeth (NOYES) FREEMAN, w John; 13 Nov 16[49], 13 Nov 1646; Sudbury. ^[6] She being the daughter of Peter Noyes (who also came over on the ship "Confidence" in 1638) and widow of John Freeman. Children of Josiah Haynes and Elizabeth Noyes are ^[2]:

Town Records of Sudbury provide the following details:

• July 9, 1645: Josiah Haynes took the Oath of fidelity.
• 1666: he was chosen on the Board of Selectmen.
• 1674: he was appointed as surveyor.
• Oct. 21, 1674: he was chosen to supply lumber for a new bridge over the Sudbury River.
• July 9, 1675: he was promoted from Sgt. To Lieutenant.
• July 11, 1684: he was chosen to be on the committee appointed to ratify the contract on behalf of the town of another tract of land purchased from the Indians.

The exact date of death of Josiah Haynes is not known, but his will was dated Jan. 31, 1698, showing that he lived to an old age.

His will was in probate in 1698. ^[7]
