Biography

This profile is part of the Haywood Name Study.

Ernest was born in 1875. He was the son of John Haywood and Johanna Murch. Born on 9 December, [1] he had a rather sad start to his life; his mother, Johanna, died just over a week later of complications with the birth, aged only 31. However, Ernest's father, John, remarried when Ernest was five to a woman from Torquay named Eliza Pope, the daughter of a builder. When Ernest grew up he became a brickmaker, like his father before him and one of his two brothers (the other brother became a sailor). [2]
