Biography

Elizabeth Hedley daughter of Thomas Hedley and his wife, Elizabeth Mayors, was baptised in Newcastle upon Tyne on the 1st of February 1814. ^[1]

She married Thomas Dalrymple at St John, Newcastle on the 29th of December 1836. ^[2] Thomas was a labourer and they moved to Gateshead in County Durham, presumably in search of work. ^[3]

By 1851 they were comfortably settled at Back William St. in Gateshead where they kept 19 cows, had six children and three servants.^[4] Unfortunately Thomas died in 1858^[5] but Elizabeth was able to continue supporting her family from her 6 acres of land. ^[6]

In 1871 Elizabeth was living a 26 Keloria St with her son, John, and her granddaughter, Elizabeth Almond. ^[7] She died in 1878 aged 65. ^[8] and was buried at Gateshead Parish Church on the 11th of September. ^[9]
