Biography

The Moruya identity Edmund Heffernan appears to have been born in about 1808. His Siblings were Michael b 178? (married margaret Ryan) Catherine b 1795 m (common/Comans) Mary b 179? m Edmund Kirby, William b c1800 m Sally Ryan, Margaret b 180? m Hugh Ryan, Roger, James b 1809m Mary Matthews, John m Mary Ryan , Patrick b 1814 m Ellen Reilly He emigrated to Australia with all his family, arriving in New South Wales on 12 December 1849 on the ship "Sarah". The passenger list has the ages of all the family members as Edmond 38, Honora his wife 39, and their seven children, Patrick 16, Roger 15, Margaret 13, Catherine 11, Mary 9, Ellen 7 and Johanna 5. This suggests Edmond was born about 1811.

He married Honora Ryan. I have a biographical note on the brothers Edmund and Patrick Heffernan which says Patrick came to Australia in the early 1830s, was married at Goulburn in 1836, was at Braidwood in 1845 and came to Moruya in 1851. The note says Edmund came to Australia in 1850. Marie Narelle was born at "Combaning" sheep station near Temora in 1870. She was a second cousin via Heffernan to the professional singer Eva Mylott, the latter being paternal grandmother of the actor Mel Gibson. -- A.F "Andrew Fogarty"
