Åkenus was born in 1673 to Israel Helm and his wife.
"In 1693, Israel Helm's household of five probably included two sons
(Hermanus and Åkenus) ..." [1].
In 1705 Åkenus married Catherine Rambo [2] with whom he had seven known children. [3].
Catherine died 20 July 1726.
On 27 December 1728 Åkenus married Elizabeth Dalbo in Trinity Episcopal Church in Swedesboro, New Jersey. [4] They had four known children.[3]
Åke is mentioned in a book by Pehr Kalm who travelled in North America and came to Raccoon in November 1748.[5]
Aoke Helm was one of the most considerable Swedes in this place, and his father came over into this country along with the Swedish governor Prince; he was upwards of seventy years of age.
Most accounts [3] say that Åkenus died about 1750. There is, however, a record [6] of the burial of Ake Helm on 21 March 1763 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Swedesboro.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Åkenus by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Åkenus:
Hello! I read your note on the death of Ake Helm. The Ake Helm who died in March of 1763 was the son of Ake Helm (1677-1750) and Elizabeth Dalbo. I am descended from Ake Helm's sister, Elizabeth Helm Lawrence (1673-1737).
This is my 6th g-grandfather. I hope you don't mind the additions I made to his biography, e.g., added nickname "Ake" as shown in church records. Added links to church records.
