Research Notes

Secondary sources have inconsistent info on Lucretia Smith - she resided in 1850, 1860 & 1870 in household of Allen Hemingway - She is likely the mother of Allen Hemingway marriage to --- SMITH ? No marriages records have been found for Lucretia.

She is not likely the wife of Jacob Street HEMINGWAY since JSH married Polly HINMAN in 1815 and Polly resided with JSH in 1850, 1860 census

Jacob's Find A Grave: Memorial #33327115. info is inconsistent with Jacobus "Families of New Haven"

This appears to be the mix of 2 people.

1. Lucretia Hemingway born May 1 1785 is a sister of Jacob Street Hemingway, not his wife. I think she may be the one that married John Smith 1827 in Connecticut.

2. I think a new record should be created for Lucretia Smith (LNAB) who marries Jacob Hemingway in 1808 and has the child Allen. Since she is probably the one found with Allen in future census, maybe she went back to her maiden name and didn't remarry. The Lucretia Smith could also be his aunt Lucretia (Hemingway) Smith, since we don't have records stating how old Allen's mother was at marriage

There are other Lucretia Smith records on Family Search in CT for Census or Find a Grave, some are wives of Samuel, some are in New London / East Lyme area, nothing to John Smith. Any ideas?

Hemingway-169 and Hemingway-981 appear to represent the same person because: clear duplicate
