Biography

James Hemingway Jr was born in Mount Holly, Burlington, New Jersey, United States on July 23, 1801, son of James Hemingway (1760–1822) and Elizabeth (Armstrong) Hemingway (1757–1837).

James married Hope Malmsbury (born on September 7, 1804 in Burlington, NJ; daughter of Benjamin Malmsbury (1774–1854) and Jane Cattell (1780–1853)) about 1823. Their children were:

  1. Jane (Hemingway) Burdg (1824–1890)
  2. Sarah (Hemingway) Maxson (1838–1878)
  3. Elizabeth C. (Hemingway) Livingood (1833–1900)
  4. John Malmsbury Hemingway (1836–1912)
  5. Joseph Hemingway (1831–1911)

James died on February 19, 1902 in Edmunds County, South Dakota, United States. He was buried in Ipswich Southside Cemetery, Ipswich.[1]
