MRS.P.G. SHELDON'S 93RD BIRTHDAY

Mr. & Mrs. W.J. Sheldon returned Sunday evening after a ten day visit in Arkansas and Boonville, MO. They were accompanied by their sons, Wichita and Thrall, who have been students in Kemper Military Academy at Boonville, and by one of the boy's school mates, Homer Hadley, of Milwaukee. Mr & Mrs. Sheldon made the trip via Gentry, Ark., where they visited Mr. Sheldon's mother, Mrs. P.G. Sheldon, and his sister, Mrs. Roy Carpenter, and Mr. Carpenter. On Sunday, May 28, the party participated in celebrating Mrs. P.G. Sheldon's 93rd birthday. The Electra man and Mrs. Carpenter were the only immediate members of the family present at the occasion but a number of old friends residing in that vicinity called to greet the lady whose long and useful life has but served to leave her 93 years young. Born in Canada in 1840, Mrs. Sheldon, who is well known to many people here, moved to New York state during childhood. From there both her family and that of her future husband moved to what was then the Wisconsin territory in the far northwest outpost of pioneering. They were married there and later moved to Minnesota while the area was still in process of settlement, her son recalls. But few people have enjoyed so much of romantic change and have witnessed more of the thrilling episodes in development of industry in various parts of the United States than has this remarkable woman who came to Electra in time to witness the heighth of the oil boom and who was one of the foremost in organizing the first missionary society in the Methodist church here.
