Note N45SERVICES HELD FOR DICK HEMINGWAY

Funeral services were held on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the Methodist Church in Kasson for Elmer C. (Dick) Hemingway, long time resident of Kasson and this community, who died at the home of his son, Ellsworth, with whom he lived.

Mr. Hemingway was born September 12, 1868 in Fond du Lac, Wis. He worked for many years as a drayman and for a time for the railroad before retiring a few years ago.

He is survived by two sons, Ellsworth of Kasson and Porter of Hayfield, two daughters, Mrs. Peter Kirkland of West Concord and Mrs. Erling Leth of Kasson.

Rev. W.R. C. Baker officiated at the services and burial was in Evergreen Cemetery at Mantorville.

Notes from Shirley Hemingway: Dick Hemingway, as he was always known, was the son of Calvin and Catherine Hemingway. He had two brothers: Elmer E. (or Ellsworth?) who died as a child(1862-1863) and Porter(1873-1914). He had two sisters: Cora Kimball (1863-1936) and his twin sister, Anna (1868-1882). He met his future wife, Minnie Sims, in LaGrange, Illinois. They were married in 1893 and continued to live in LaGrange until about 1900 when they moved to Kasson, MN. Two children preceded him in death: a daughter,Ella, who died in infancy and a son Calvin who died in 1935. His wife, Minnie, died in 1948 and is buried in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Kasson.

Dick Hemingway, faithful Kasson mail messenger who has transported thousands of letters and packages between the post office and the railroad dept. over the last years, has announced his resignation,effective Dec. 31.
