Married Luella Berdene Peterson on September 15, 1920. They were married at the home of Luella's parents outside of Hayfield. They made their home in Rochester, Mayville, and Mantorville, MN before settling in Hayfield again in 1929. Children born to Port & Luella: Betty (Mrs. John) Weeks (1921), Richard Hemingway (1923) & James P. Hemingway (1925-2001)
Porter died December 1,1977 in Austin, MN at the age of 80.
Funeral Services were held on Sunday December 4, 1977 at 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield, MN with Rev. Myrwood Bagne officiating. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield. Graveside Military Honors by Rothie Post No. 330 American Legion of Hayfield, MN.
Notes from Shirley Hemingway: Porter Elmer Hemingway served in WWI. There is a collection of letters he wrote to Luella while in the service. After they were married Grandpa Port ran a general store in Mayville and Mantorville. Later he operated a produce shop in Hayfield , buying poultry, cream and eggs. (I believe he was working at the train depot when they were first married.)

PORTER E. HEMINGWAY SERVICES SCHEDULED
Hayfield- Services have been set for Porter E. Hemingway, 80, of Hayfield, a longtime Hayfield resident and retired businessman, who died Thursday at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin.
The funeral is 1 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield, with the Rev. Myrwood Bagne officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, with graveside military services by the Hayfield American Legion.
Mr. Hemingway was born Dec. 12, 1896 in La Grange, Ill. and as a young man worked in Rochester, Kasson and Sleepy Eye, Minn. intil serving with the Army during World War I. He married Luella Peterson Sept. 15, 1920, near Hayfield. Mr. Hemingway then owned and operated a grocery and produce store until retiting in 1964. Mrs. Hemingway survives.
He was a longtime member of the Hayield American Legion and a former member of both the Hayfield City Council and the Hayfield Volunteer Fire Department. At the time of his death he was a board member of the Fairview Cemetery Association and the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield.
Survivors include two sons, Richard of Taopi, Min. and James of Hayfield; a daughter, Mrs. John (Betty) Weeks of Bloomington; eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Erling Leth of Mantorville, and Mrs. Marion Kirkland of Kasson. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Pallbearers are grandsons, Richard C. Hemingway II, Rande C., Porter J. and Jamie L. Hemingway and Charles. and Stephan J. Weeks.
Friends may call at the Cole Funeral Chapel here Saturday from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m., then at the church on Sunday for one hour before the service.
The family prefers memorials to the Stained Glass Window Fund of the Hayfield Trinity Lutheran Church.
