Biography

Richard was possibly the son of Richard Henderson of Hanover Co. VA, or a son of James (jr) Henderson of New Kent Co.

Richard's wife, Henrietta, is commonly believed to have been a Henley from Henrico, but as yet no source has proved this. His Will proved his five children and one brother, Edward. Entries in the parish's Vestry book indicate that from the time of his Will in 1745 until his death he was ill and unable to work.

He was closely related to the Nathaniel Henderson who lived nearby, who witnessed his Will, and the gift deed of his widow Henrietta.

The first mention of Richard in Goochland County is from August 1739, when the Order Book details the processioning directing Richard Henderson's hands along with those of Henry Cary, William Cook, Henry, Joseph and James Terry and others to do the road work from Brooks's mill to Archers.

In September of that year Richard, acting as attorney for James Churchill, plaintiff, sued Andrew Wade for debt.

In June of 1741 Richard Henderson sued Stephen Hughes for debt and damages.

The last mention of Richard in the court records is dated December 1744 when he and John Cook were to appraise the improvements of Joseph Woodson.

Aside from the information in his Will and grant of land in Goochland he was living on, all else for this Richard is speculation.

It is really difficult to decipher through all of this but no fear. I am going to figure it all out. See I know that this is the one I'm looking for. I found an extensive amount of land in Kentucky that is under my name, at least in part. It was hidden about like everything else. It is now attached to my Family Search account and my Ancestry account. It was under the name of J.A. Henderson. Plus I just submitted my DNA and we match. Not to blame anyone in particular but somebody is throwing a wrench in this deal. I think I know who but I won't say. I'll just go back and look at what he did and start over. No disrespect intended to this page manager. I see you trying to keep things right.

This is duplicating Henderson-1223. They should be merged.

Kenneth, I detached the extra child and the bogus Findagrave (I know that guy). Now we need to merge the Henriettas.

Kenneth, I have restored prior data for this Richard. His birth is unknown, but probably occurred before Hanover was est. in 1720. I have removed Nathaniel, as there was no son of that name. The son Nathan, who was to have received the home place, died in childhood. So far as can be seen, Richard lived his entire life in Virginia.

Henderson-1972 and Henderson-1223 appear to represent the same person because: Same family
