Scots Peerage refers to him as 'of Fordell' and he is connected to James Henderson 3rd of Fordell but what is not clearly documented is all of the children of James and child or children were his heir(s). The father's profile says William was his heir but no authority is stated.
In earlier times, once you became a noble, they no longer used your family name but literature referred to you by your title. Hence, John would be called John Fordel rather than John Henderson.
