Samuel was probably born in Hanover, VA, and was the eldest surviving son. He moved to Granville Co NC after his father's death, Descendants say he accompanied the Nathaniel Henderson family. On turning 21, he returned to Goochland Co to receive his share of the sale of his father's farm.

In Granville Co he married Mary Ann Waldrop. She is said to have d. c. 1828 in Cass Co GA. Some say Samuel died in Limestone Co GA.

Served as Lt., 2nd Company, 2nd South Carolina Regiment under Col. Francis Marion.

  • Cumberland Deed W.B. 2 page 485: 13 Dec 1758 "Samuel Henderson of Granville County, NC. conveyed his interest which he had acquired in the tract to Charles Lee; consideration Pounds 13:6:8. . Recorded 25 June 1759. Witnesses: Claten Cook, John Lee, Edward Henderson

The deed recites that this 250 acres "it being a part of the parcel or tract of land that was granted to Richard Henderson by patent, bearing date at Williamsburg 30 June 1743."

Last Will & Testament

1818 -- Rutherford Co., TN. Will Book pp. 96-99, Probated in 10 Dec 1820 Court Recorded 22 May 1821. Witnesses: Federick E. Rector,William Passman. This will names his wife as Mary Ann Henderson and his children. William Atkinson and sons James and Samuel executors.

"In the name of God amen, I Samuel Henderson of the State of TN. and county of Rutherford, being in a reasonable state of health and a sound mind and memory.....unto to my beloved wife Mary Ann Henderson bridle and saddle and riding mare named Pal; 144 acres of land whereon I now live, farming tools, household and kitchen furniture; ...lend her three negro women, Autie, Nelly and Judy, cows and calves, sows and pigs. This loan is during the aforementioned Mary Ann Henderson's lifetime or widowhood; ...and disposed of as herafter directed....to my beloved daughter Mary McNees, wife of Robert McNees, one dollar in addition to what I have hertofore given her to be levied out of my estate; to beloved son Richard, one dollar in addition to what I have hertofore given him to be levied out of my estate...daughter Nancy Rodgers, wife of William Rodgers [same]; daughter Patience Rodgers,wife of Andrew Rodgers, bed and furniture. It is my will that publick sale in 12 months ...to be equally divided between my 4 daughters[VIZ] Susannah Rodgers, patience Rodgers, Christian Davis, and Sally King....one half of the value of the three negro women to my beloved grandchildren, the heirs of my son Samuel Henderson which he had by his present wife Sally [VIZ] Minerva, Abner P., Eliza H., Samuel T.,and Luther B., ...before the year 1837 the money then assessed of half of the valuation of the above negro women. And I appoint my son Samuel Henderson as guardian for the above named heirs of Samuel and Sally Henderson. ...I also give and bequeath unto my beloved grandchildren, the heirs of James and Fanny his wife [VIZ] Eliza E., Samuel M. and Pleasant T. Henderson, together with all the heirs that the same James Henderson and Fanny shall have, all the balance of the sale of my land not otherwise willed ...I appoint my friend William Atkinson and my sons James and Samuel Henderson my lawful Executors...16 May 1818 Signed Samuel Henderson.

Witnesses: Frederick E. Rector and William Passman."

This profile probably duplicates 7331 and a couple of others as well. As is, it seems to stand alone without ancestors, descendants, siblings or spouse.

Do we have any information on this Samuel Henderson, christening record, etc? Also, did he move to Augusta Co?

My supposed ancestor Samuel was born in 1713 and according to family trees, he came from Scotland, but there are not records there of his birth. He was born the same year. I wonder if these are the same person. There are strong records of Samuel Henderson in Augusta Co starting just after 1740 and my Samuel died there in 1783-4.
